in this image, the 3/3/0 tile is the city center

A City Center is the tile a city is founded on. That is, it's the tile that actually shows the graphic icon of a city.

Common rules for City Centers, in most rulesets:[]

The city center tile...

  • Gets worked for free, without assigning a citizen to work it.
  • Gets a food bonus as if it is irrigated, even though it is not irrigated.
  • Gets an immediate food bonus if the city has a Supermarket.
  • Gets a "Nile River Bonus" on desert rivers, for rulesets which have it.
  • Gets a minimum food output of +1 food, even if the tile would normally get no food.
  • Gets a minimum shield output of +1 shield, even if the tile would normally produce no shields.
  • Gets an automatic road or other road-type if the technology is available.
  • Gets a unit bonus of being Fortified whether or not the unit is in a fortified state.
  • Allows the loading or unloading of cargo units.
  • Rules specific to the ruleset.

Special rules specific to some rulesets:[]

  • Before Bridge Building, exiting a city with a Quay to an adjacent road costs 1/3 move point. (The move cost for quays onto roads is normally 2/3 move point.) (MP2 rules)
