How excited I was to see freeciv available for download!
How confused I was to wade through page after page of terms like "Mac Ports" "X11" "binary" etc. All I know how to do is click on an icon to start an application. What's with all the coding? Is there no way to just download and play this marvelous game?

There's two categories of download types, the source code and the binary (which, in layman's terms, is a normal program, ready for use on your machine). You want to pick up an OS X binary.
If you have OS X "Lion", all you have to do is click the Mac OS X link on the front page, to the right of the Apple logo, and it should work fine.
If you're using Snow Leopard (like me) or another version, click on the "Official Packages" link and find a binary that has requirements that fit your operating system. The newest version for Snow Leopard is currently the 2.3 beta (though I hope that it'll get a more recent version someday, because I'd really prefer not to have to update just yet).Consul Bob (talk) 11:07, November 3, 2012 (UTC)
