Freeciv

Windows version[]

"Stable"?[]

I've downloaded and played the Windows version. As mentioned elsewhere, I love it.

But what does "stable" (as in the blurb on our main page) mean? Crashing only once every few turns? See my copy of messages for an indication of crash occurrences and the precise circumstances as far as I could judge what had triggered the crash.

Which Windows package are you using: Win32, GTK2 or SDL? --Hima 14:28, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Windows Me Robin Patterson 04:15, 10 April 2007 (UTC)
Windows Me is not really a recommended environment for Freeciv ATM. The GTK2 client is confirmed to have serious issues on Windows 9x. The Win32 version while fully supported, hasn't had a maintainer for a very long time and probably contains a lot of outdated code which may be causing your issues if that's the one you're running. --Hima 06:01, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

Thank you for clarifying. The download page gives no hint of that when it says "Freeciv-2.0.9-win32-setup.exe (95 and above)" is available on sourceforge.net. I'm sure that's what I got. My filenames look like C:\MPS\Freeciv\Freeciv-2.0.9-win32\12K+1543m.sav.gz. Oh, well, the annoyance of the crashes has not put me off yet - still playing several hours most days.
